  1. 01Can you tell me a little about yourself?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"I'm a backend developer with about three years of experience, mostly working with Java and Spring Boot on payment systems. In my current role, I'm responsible for the reconciliation module and I've worked closely with clients in Japan and Singapore. I enjoy solving performance problems and improving code quality. Now I'm looking for a product-focused team where I can grow into system design, which is why this position caught my attention."

Dùng "I'm responsible for…", "I've worked on…" thay vì "I am in charge about…". Đừng mở đầu bằng tên trường hay quê quán.

  2. 02Could you describe the project you're currently working on?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"I'm working on an e-commerce platform that handles orders for several retail brands. The system is built with microservices on Node.js, using PostgreSQL and Redis, deployed on AWS. My team has six people and we work in two-week sprints. I'm mainly in charge of the order and payment services. Recently, I led the integration with a new payment gateway, from reading the API docs to handling edge cases like timeouts and duplicate callbacks."

  3. 03Tell me about a technical decision you made and why.

    Gợi ý trả lời

"In my last project, we needed to send notifications to users after each order. Instead of calling the notification service directly, I proposed using a message queue. The main reason was reliability: if the notification service was down, messages would wait in the queue instead of being lost. It also made the order API faster. The trade-off was more infrastructure to maintain, but the team agreed it was worth it."

Mẹo: nói theo thứ tự vấn đề, các lựa chọn, lý do chọn, đánh đổi. Các cụm hữu ích: "The main reason was…", "The trade-off was…", "We considered… but…".

  4. 04Tell me about a difficult problem you solved.

    Gợi ý trả lời

"Our report page became very slow as the data grew, sometimes taking more than a minute. I checked the query plans and found that a few queries were scanning entire tables. I added the right indexes, rewrote one query to avoid unnecessary joins, and cached the daily summary. The page then loaded in a few seconds, and the support team stopped receiving complaints about it."

Mẹo: dùng STAR và thì quá khứ đơn cho cả câu chuyện ("I found", "I added", không phải "I find", "I add").

  5. 05Have you worked with foreign clients or teams in different time zones? How did it go?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"Yes, for the last two years I've worked with a client in Europe, so we only had about three overlapping hours a day. To make the most of that time, we kept a short daily call and I prepared questions in advance. For everything else, I wrote clear updates in Jira and Slack so they could reply when they started their day. This helped us avoid waiting a whole day for answers."

Dùng "overlapping hours", "asynchronous communication", "I kept them updated". Tránh nói "I have worked with them since 2 years", đúng là "for two years".

  6. 06Tell me about a time you disagreed with a teammate or your manager.

    Gợi ý trả lời

"My tech lead wanted to release a feature without load testing because of a tight deadline. I was worried because the feature would run during peak hours. I explained my concern and suggested a quick test on just the critical API, which took half a day. The test found a memory issue that we fixed before release. My lead appreciated it, and load testing became part of our release checklist."

Mẹo: giọng điệu nên tôn trọng: "I explained my concern", "I suggested", tránh "I told him he was wrong".

  7. 07Why are you interested in this role?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"I've been working on payment systems for three years, and I'm really interested in building products at a larger scale. From the job description, your team is redesigning the transaction platform, which matches my experience and what I want to learn next. I also like that you have a strong engineering culture with code reviews and technical sharing. I believe I can contribute quickly and keep growing here."

Tránh mở đầu bằng lương hay "because your company is big".

  8. 08What would you say is your greatest strength?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"I'd say my greatest strength is ownership. When I take on a task, I make sure it works end to end, not just that the code is merged. For example, after releasing a new feature, I usually check the logs and metrics for the first few days. Last year this helped me catch a data issue early, before it affected many users."

Mẹo: một điểm mạnh kèm một ví dụ ngắn là đủ. Các từ hay dùng: "ownership", "attention to detail", "problem-solving", "fast learner". Nói "I'd say…" nghe tự nhiên hơn "My strong point is…".

  9. 09Do you have any questions for us?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"Yes, I have a couple of questions. First, could you tell me what a typical week looks like for this role? And second, what are the biggest challenges the team is facing right now? I'd also like to know how you measure success for someone in this position during the first three months."

Mẹo: chuẩn bị sẵn 2–3 câu, dùng mẫu lịch sự "Could you tell me…?", "I'd like to know…". Đừng trả lời "No, I don't".

  10. 10How would you explain a bug to a non-technical person, like a client or a business user?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"I'd focus on the impact and what we're doing about it, not the technical details. For example: 'Some customers saw the wrong total in their cart when they applied two discount codes at once. No payments were affected. We've found the cause, the fix is being tested now, and it should be live tomorrow morning. Until then, we've limited orders to one code each.'"

Cụm hữu ích: "The good news is…", "To be safe, we have…".

  11. 11Where do you see yourself in three to five years?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"In three to five years, I see myself as a senior engineer who can design and own a major part of the system. I'd also like to mentor junior developers, because I enjoyed doing that in my current team. To get there, I'm studying system design and taking on more responsibility in technical discussions. I hope to grow in that direction with a company like yours."

Mẹo: dùng "I see myself…", "I'd like to…", "I hope to…". Mục tiêu nên thực tế và liên quan tới công việc đang ứng tuyển. Người Việt hay nói "I want to become a leader" quá chung chung; nên nói rõ leader làm việc gì.

  12. 12When would you be available to start? Do you have a notice period?

    Gợi ý trả lời

"My current contract requires a 30-day notice period, so I could start about a month after accepting an offer. I'd like to make sure I hand over my work properly to my team. If you need someone sooner, I can discuss with my manager whether an earlier date is possible, but I can't promise that yet."

Dùng "notice period", "hand over", "start date". Tránh nói "I can go to work immediately" khi bạn vẫn còn hợp đồng.
